How It All Began When AI Was Mostly Just Sci-Fi 

When Jan Najvárek and Tomáš Ondráček co-founded ARTIN in 1998, AI was already part of their vision. But the reality of what it could achieve was still a distant goal. "We knew that AI would be a fundamental technology that would shape the world," Jan recalls. "But back then, neural networks were rudimentary, and computer power was nowhere near sufficient to achieve what we see today." Today, AI has become the beating heart of our company and its mission to bring advanced solutions to life for customers across a wide range of industries. 

From an early fascination with building systems that "do the work for us," Jan’s journey has been all about taking AI from the conceptual stage to practical applications that solve real business problems. As Jan likes to joke, "I’m lazy, like every other IT Developer.  I like things that work for me so that I have the time and space to use my time smarter." For example, ARTIN has pioneered ScreenAI, which recognizes clickable elements on a screen to automate interactions that would otherwise require human input. "We taught computers to recognize buttons, fields, and screens years ago—even before Google came up with their solution," Jan points out. It’s innovations like these that help customers who are looking for ways to make their processes more efficient.

How We Deliver AI Strategy, Development and Implementation

As Jan explains, "We actively support AI projects that emerge amongst Artinians. If we see long-term potential, we provide funding and let them develop independently as spin-off companies, allowing the dedicated team to fully focus on the project." Here are just some examples of our successful spin-offs that originated as internal projects: 

  • Roboauto develops autonomous technologies for vehicles ranging from cars to construction equipment. "AI helps ensure that autonomous vehicles operate safely in, for example, dangerous environments," Jan shares. 
  • AIVIRO uses ScreenAI to automate application workflows. This means machines click, type, and interact with software just like a human. This approach significantly boosts efficiency in environments that handle a lot of data. 
  • BoxOptima uses AI to determine the dimensions of items in shopping carts, ensuring only appropriate delivery methods are offered. Their technology helps e-commerce businesses optimize the usage of parcel lockers and improve delivery accuracy.  
  • Coworkers.ai creates smart chatbots and voicebots that handle customer support, make cold calls, and collect overdue payments. These are often repetitive and time-consuming tasks that people don't enjoy doing, so the bots take over to make the process easier and more efficient. 

LLM (Large Language Model) Integration 

Jan speaks enthusiastically about our use of Large Language Models: "We've always tried to bring something new, especially when it comes to applying modern technologies in the real-world business environment."  

Our R&D team is currently working on a project to create self-learning AI agents. Jan describes it as "an iterative, self-learning AI agent that uses Large Language Models but goes further by learning from its own actions in real-world situations.” In other words, such agent adapts and evolves autonomously. It’s an enormous step ahead in comparison to today’s AI capabilities where chatbots need to be taught and fed data.

When working with clients, our team often encounters certain misconceptions about AI—like the idea that it delivers flawless results immediately, or that a fixed time and cost estimate is always feasible. Jan emphasizes the importance of managing each other's expectations from the get-go: "AI projects often require a longer discovery phase, sometimes up to 50% of the project time. Why? Because we need to understand the customer’s needs thoroughly to be able to help them reach their goals in the best possible way with minimal costs," Jan explains
